Abstract

The occurrence of Mallomonas species in the shallow, hypertrophic Lake Federsee (Germany, Baden-Württemberg) was studied from 1996 to 1999. The investigation revealed 12 species, which mainly occurred from December to April (Table 1). The most frequent species were Mallomonas alpina, M. tonsurata, M. acaroides var. acaroides, M. striata var. striata and M. annulata. Mallomonas eoa and M. akrokomos only occurred frequently in 1999. The results indicate that Mallomonas alpina, M. tonsurata and M. acaroides var. acaroides are best fitted on hypertrophic conditions.
